We put together this video to
commemorate the enormous and selfless donation of time,
effort, materials and hard work by our members and builders
working towards the Extreme Home Makeover-Joplin in October,
2011, when 7 homes were built in 7 days.
Local Builder Proud of
Workers, Volunteers
from the Joplin Globe by
Debby Woodin
JOPLIN, Mo. — Workers clad in
white and blue hard hats and blue shirts scurry around like
a colony of ants entering and leaving a nest in Joplin's
tornado zone just east of Cunningham Park.
Those hats and shirts are the uniform of an army, an army
whose weapons are hammers and nails.
Commanding part of those soldiers is Charlie Kuehn, a Joplin
contractor who has been building houses and commercial
buildings for more than 30 years. He's twice been voted
Builder of the Year by the Home Builders Association of
Southwest Missouri, whose members are working along with
Springfield-area builders on the project.

HOMEOWNERS BEWARE!
During this rebuilding period our community will be flooded with out of town contractors. Not all of them will be reputable. Please take care when hiring someone from outside our local area to work on your home.
The following is a short list of some red flags you will want to beware of:
You're told that on this job, a contract "won't be necessary."
You're asked to pay for the entire job "up front" -or pay cash to a salesperson instead of a check or money order to a company.
You are confronted with scare tactics.
You're told you've been"chosen" as a demonstration project at a special, low price.
You're told a low price is good only if you sign a contract today.
The contractor won't give you references -- or the references can't be located.
You can't verify the contractor's business address.
